Oil
The main criteria of a car’s eco-friendliness is generally seen as the energy it uses in its operation. Cars have primarily run on oil-based fuel in the form of petrol or diesel for over a century. But we are now at the point where demand for oil is rising so much, and reserves are declining, that oil is actually running out. Oil prices have always been volatile and they react to speculation about events ranging from terrorism to hurricanes, but rising demand and diminishing reserves mean that overall, oil is just going to keep on getting more expensive. However despite this, most cars today still rely on oil as their primary source of energy; and oil is obviously a key contributor to carbon emissions, and climate change.
Ok, let me start by saying that I just recently purchased a brand new car! What’s the big deal you ask? Well the car does 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. Filled up my gas tank 10 days ago (moderate driving) and I still have a quarter tank of gas left. Went to the gas station several hours ago and it cost me 25 dollars to fill her up! In New York! With oil prices and the price of a barrel of oil at just under 60 dollars, that’s pretty good in my opinion.
What type of car is it? No it’s not a hybrid, its a Honda Civic 2006. Ok close enough. Your probably wondering what the heck I’m talking about, but in my opinion I’m talking about something very important which will effect my life, your life and our grandkids lives in the future. Stop complaining about high oil prices and do something about it! That means not buying a Hummer or an SUV, but buying a fuel efficient car. Empower yourself and stick it to the big oil executives and there counterparts in the middle east.
How do you wash a garbage truck or a refuse truck? Well this job is pretty tough considering garbage trucks are built in such a way that they have all these little boxes and holes where you are going to end up spraying. The water is going to come back in all different angles and soak you. So any dirt on a garbage truck is going to be on you when you are done. They are really hard to soap because you have to soap each individual square on the side of the entire garbage truck. You need to charge at least twenty dollars minimum to wash a garbage truck.
Chances are, they have a ton of them so twenty times a lot of trucks is a lot of money. If you are working for BFI, GreenTeam or a local municipality they’ll have upwards of forty plus trucks. It is not going to be easy work but it is going to be good money. These trucks have hydraulics in the front where all the hydraulic lifts are and it can be a fire hazard if you do not clean all of that grease. The mechanics usually over grease the hydraulic fittings. The drivers try to compact as much as they can into these trash trucks so they can do fewer trips to the dump. Each time they go to the dump it costs the company or city money.
Drive considerately and courteously.
Be polite and well mannered when driving on the road. Don’t copy road bullies. They are not a good example to follow. Like the saying goes: “Do unto others what you like others to do unto you.”

In this article I’m going to discuss the properties of the diesel and gas engines, and compare them to each other. I’m specifically referring to their use in automobiles.
Looking at them from a distance both the gas and the diesel engine work in about the same way. A fuel made from refined crude oil is burned inside a cylinder and the hot expanding gasses forces the piston to move. The movement of the piston is then transferred to the wheels through crankshaft, gearbox and transmission.

A few years ago, it was difficult to find synthetic motor oils, and equally difficult to find someone who admitted to using them. Nowadays, however, you can find synthetic motor oils on the shelves of Wal-Mart, and other retailers, and the number of people turning to synthetic motor oils, particularly in light of the recent events affecting fuel prices, has risen greatly.
So why do people use synthetic motor oils rather than sticking with the old petroleum based stand-bys which are admittedly cheaper?
Well let’s see GF-3 got passed when no one could work out the details, isn’t it typical when you form a committee and spend hours putting into minutes what you could have done in seconds as an entrepreneur that the results are insured in advance? Dismal failure, but no matter let’s move forward anyway, isn’t that what bureaucracies do?
So GF-4 should be completed sometime in 2004-2005? They say, but who is they?
Hybrid cars are a fusion of technologies. Unlike standard cars moving on a single propulsion system, hybrid cars are driven by the power of multiple propulsion systems. Most common among these hybrid vehicles are those cars that use gasoline and electrical energy as their source of power. Serious experimentations with ethanol or plant based oils are also being conducted.

The year was 1976, the place was Milton, Florida, a small, semi-rural community in the Florida panhandle, not far from Pensacola, where I had grown up. I had recently returned to northwest Florida, after working as an accountant for the Florida State Department of Education in Tallahassee and Sarasota, to take the position of Business Manager for the Santa Rosa County Mental Health Clinic.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and I was standing outside Red’s service station on one of Milton’s street corners (You remember service stations, right?) while a set of tires was being put on my car. I had a lot of my automobile maintenance done at Red’s, and frequently bought gas and had oil changes done there. He was a nice guy, his prices were reasonable, and the service was great.
Carfacts and CHANGING YOUR OIL…
The first thing you should do is go to your local discount auto store or WalMart and purchase your oil and filter.
Well folks we have all the makings of a mid-1970’s energy crisis. After Hurricane Katrina we lost ten refineries, which probably supply 1 million barrels of production per day. We have platform and drilling rig damage in the Gulf of Mexico. But it is not oil alone you should be concerned about, Natural Gas supplies could potentially be insufficient to meet needs. Not a huge issue now, but it will be come winter. We have not been keeping up in the construction or new Natural Gas drilling over the last two-decades.
Due to low fuel prices prior to 1999 new oil exploration, infrastructure and drilling did not advance as fast as the needs of our nation. Now we are behind the power curve and it is an issue of supply and demand. The President has agreed to release some oil reserves into that the over all supply. Unfortunately the Federal Government needs fuel for war and rescue efforts and it only has enough supply for maybe 60-days. Meanwhile while we have supply, the delivery and refining capacity is at issue, not to mention the transportation problems. We have three very large ports shut down completely and it maybe weeks and rail is out like the Interstate 10 Freeway the mainstay of interstate commerce.
It’s likely that the farmers would not blockade the countries roads for starters as people come resigned to the fact that high prices are here to stay. Unfortunately, the high prices are unlikely to decrease and are becoming more and more likely with increasing tensions around the world in oil economies leading to decreasing oil supply and price volatility in the world markets. Fossil fuels are running out an alarming rate and people are starting to look seriously at other alternatives.
Needless to say, an increase in oil prices will create hardships to the economy and in every person’s life. But some people state that the only way to get them to use public transport or to walk the 5 minutes to the local shop instead of driving is to price them out of using their cars for inefficient journeys. Increasingly people and making their own biodiesel fuel from used cooking oil to run their cars to reduce their dependence on oil.

When Do I change my Oil?
Motor oil technology has gradually progressed since the days of the earliest automobiles. In those days, standard motor oil drain intervals were between 500 and 1000 miles, and motorists had to switch viscosity grades with the changing of the seasons. The development of oil filtration and additive technology in the 1930s allowed drain intervals to increase to 2000 and later 3000 miles, while the development of viscosity modifiers in the 1940s allowed the formulation of multi-grade oils that could be used in both hot and cold temperatures.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if there was another oil shortage. Imagine going to the gas station and being turned away. Imagine paying ten maybe 15 dollars a gallon. Maybe Iran tells the United States no more oil and causes another war, maybe WORLD WAR 3. Its scary but you never know.
That is why we as a nation need to be oil dependent. We need to start producing more vehicles that run on alternative energy. We need to start thinking more energy efficient. I know it will be years before every car you see coming down the street will be run without foreign oil but till that day comes we have to do everything possible to conserve energy. Hybrid cars are a good beginning.
I was letting my car warm-up I notice that what I thought was water moisture coming out of the tailpipe was not a solid mist but litlle drops blowing out.
I held a paper towel in front of the pipe and had someone lightly punch the gas then it was a little more of like if you did a light spray of window cleaner on a paper towel.
