Well it turns out this gentleman who mentioned this is right? Can you believe it; that is just too funny. Turn drugs into fuel; everyone wins? Although there are some other issues to this of course for instance another think tanker asks:
The use of ethanol as an alternative fuel is becoming increasingly popular by ever conscious consumers wishing to do their little bit for the planet. It may even be a better alternative to bio fuel, it seems that it is a lot more pleasant to make at any rate.
What is Ethanol? Ethanol is a grain alcohol, or plant mass formula derived from the natural sugars found in bio mass, or vegetation such as corn, wheat, barley, potatoes and sugar cane. This is then processed to make a renewable form of fuel or fuel additive, which is both cost effective and good for the planet. Many cars are able to run on Ethanol and gasoline mixtures. Although at the moment, the mixtures are only a ratio of 10% Ethanol, to 90% fossil fuel.
German automaker BMW is on a quest, one that may likely make them the first automaker in the world to produce a fleet of vehicles capable of running on hydrogen fuel. That’s right, BMW is leading the way and if all goes as promised the first hydrogen cell powered production BMW will hit the streets in 2008.

I can’t help but feel a little nostalgic – after all, when Henry Ford started out his cars were designed to run on ethanol (oil hadn’t really made it onto the scene by then) and in fact he invested considerable sums in ethanol production and distribution. It was only the bully boy tactics of the new oil barons that made petrol and petro diesel the no. 1 fuels in the market.
Many people believe that we can simply switch to growing our own fuel and rid America of our addiction to Middle Eastern foreign oil. You wish it was that easy. There is nothing easy about it except the theory itself. For instance first you must grow your own fuel and have proper water supplies.
Then you must refine it and deliver it to market. And still you are not out of the woods yet because you need cars, which can run on ethanol. This means people have to buy cars that run on ethanol but currently automakers are producing 17 million cars per year and only a small percentage to run on ethanol or E85 Ethanol, which is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

The United States government is steadfast in finding a solution to breaking our addiction to Middle Eastern foreign oil. This potential challenge will not be easy to grow our own fuel. Biofuels such as Biodiesel and Ethanol are one way that America can break her addiction. However even if we can grow between 15 and 20% of our fuel by 2012 we still face other uphill challenges.
Currently automakers are building about 17 million cars per year and we need them to build cars, which use less gasoline, but they are not doing that. The average car other Japanese automakers gets 23 miles a gallon, while the average car made by US automakers gets 19 miles to the gallon. Both of those figures need to be around 30 miles per gallon and we need to help of car manufacturers to build more high breads and automobiles, which run on E85 Ethanol.
Pure ethanol or E100 is also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol. It is made when corn, grain, or other agricultural products are fermented, distilled, and denatured and because of this, it is a continually renewable resource, a true benefit in the world of alternative fuels. Another benefit is the fact that, unlike many other, mainly petroleum based, fuels, it contributes nothing to the build-up of greenhouse gases. Because of its renewable nature, it is possible to extensively reduce a nation’s dependence on foreign oil products.
Pure ethanol is never used as an alternative fuel, but ethanol blends are. For example, E10 is a fuel made of 10 percent ethanol and blended with 90 percent gasoline. The most common blend is E85, a fuel made of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. E85 is officially classified by the U.S. Department of Energy as an alternative energy fuel. It could be used in most cars today that are run on gasoline with some modification, and new, flexible fuel vehicles, are being developed that could use E85. Recently, lobbyists have been pushing for its use in FFVs or flexible fuel vehicles, alternative vehicles that have a lesser impact on the environment than today’s gas guzzling cars.
The call has gone out from President Bush to kick our oil habit. For many people, the mention of biomass as a fuel source was a new concept. Little did they realize they have already been putting it into their cars. Nope, that isn’t your dad’s gas anymore.
