Each year experts in the automobile industry come up with their lists of the top ten vehicles of the year. Some experts put the vehicles through a series of tests, while others create their lists purely on market and consumer response. Vehicle choice is certainly a personal one, but experts like Cars.com, Consumer Reports magazine, Automobile magazine, and Car and Driver magazine, are certainly worth listening to. What did they have to say this year?
Well, the Cars.com list of most popular vehicles in 2005 was topped by the Honda Civic. Cars.com analyzes the vehicular market to come up with the most popular new car models based on consumer interest (i.e. on the number of email requests for price quotes sent to dealers) and not car tests. Here’s their top ten list for 2005:
Although most people would hate to admit it, women and men do tend to get different treatment at the car lot. Studies show that women get worse deals on used car prices than men at used car lots. No matter what type of car they are purchasing, if a woman purchases a car alone, the sales people at the used car lots automatically assume she will agree to pay more and won’t deal as low with her. It is a shame that women have to take men to the lots with them to get the best deals around.
There are ways that women can come into a used car lot and get a great deal however. That is without bringing a man along. After all, women can do everything a man can do, including buying a car. The first thing a woman needs to do is dress professionally. When you have on a power suit that you might use on a big day at the office, you will look more serious and the salespeople will know you are intelligent and ready to get down to business.
You may not realize this but if you are going to buy a hybrid car, SUV or any similar vehicle you could get a whopping tax break. In fact few consumers have taken the government up on this offer, perhaps they do not realize that this was part of the Bill that President Bush recently signed?
If you buy a Honda or Toyota hybrid such as the Prius or Isight you could get a $2,000 deduction on your 2004 or 2005 tax return. Those in the 33% tax bracket that would cut your tax obligations by up to $600.00 just think about this. You can save fuel, get a cool car and save money on your taxes too; but why are people not taking the government up on this? Well, probably because many people are not even aware of it. But you must take the deduction by the end of this year as the offer from the government, as good as it is, ends on January one, 2006; which is approaching about as fast as our next named Tropical Storm.

The second step in placing an ad is selecting the pictures of the vehicle you want to use in your listing. Remember the hypothetical situation from step 1? Using multiple pictures in your listing can give the potential buyer loads of information about your vehicle before the buyer even reads the first word about it.

I enjoy reading the tips and suggestions on finding an honest or good mechanic. These can be found on various government and consumer websites. I think the same guy wrote all the suggestions for all 50 states.
You’ll be advised to check around by word of mouth (WOM), and make sure that you see ASE or AAA posted somewhere. Check out the facility—makes sure it’s clean. Check with the BBB. You’ll be acronymed and common sense suggested to death. None of it will really help.

Head On Collisions can be prevented. Be aware while driving. The fatal flaw of all head on collisions is that the driver was not aware of either the speed of the approaching car and misjudged or did not see the car until it was too late. A head on collision is more apt to result in a fatality than any other type of collision.
Faulty driving maneuvers that might cause a driver to cross the centerline include: Bad passing judgment; Driving around a curve too fast for conditions; Left turns directly into the path of on-coming vehicle; Wide right turns; Failure to interpret pavement markings; Over correcting from a right wheel dropping off the pavement.
When speaking to your mechanic or service representative, there are many things one should never say. Sad as this is, certain questions and requests can trigger multiple price-gouging tactics from your service center. Following is a list of ten statements in random order. The term “mechanic” may be exchanged for “technician,” “service representative,” “service advisor,” “owner,” “service manager,” or anyone that you deal with when having your vehicle serviced.

Buying a new car is exciting to be sure, but it can also be much more expensive than it really should be for most people. Let’s review the top 5 new car buying mistakes that many people make and see how to avoid them.
1. Probably the first thing that costs most car buyers money is not doing enough advance research about new cars before they start the shopping process. You may think that you will learn a lot by just visiting the dealership and asking the salespeople about new vehicles, but you will only learn what they want you to know that way. If you want unbiased information that you can trust, you need to do some online research or read Consumer Reports instead. You can find out which vehicles are rated highest for reliability and other factors, as well as get specific pricing information that will help guide you in price negotiations. By doing this advance research you will know what you want and how much you are willing to pay for it.
As one of the “major purchases” in life, car buying is one to be carefully considered. Your first task will be to determine exactly what market you’re going for.

For months, I had gone from one mechanic to another, seeking to understand why my car was making a scraping sound when I applied pressure to my brakes. The mechanics assured me that the problem was not the brakes. Yet, the problem grew worse.
The scraping sound was like a phantom. It was elusive at best. One moment it was so loud that other drivers would stare as my car moved past them. The next moment, there was no sound at all.

This will remove dirt and road debris which will cause scratches if you skip this step and start using a sponge and soap on the car. If it is a hot day, be sure to routinely wet the car so it does not dry suds or cleaning chemicals on it.
