Looking After Your Car’s Tires

A piece of advice that I’ve always taken to heart when looking after a car was ‘always look after your breaks and tires’. Sound advice as these are obviously two of the most important pieces of safety equipment on any vehicle, and are relatively inexpensive to care for.

To ensure that your tires are always in tip-top condition I suggest you check your tire pressure regularly. It is important that tires are inflated to the correct pressure to ensure the best grip on the road. Remember over-inflated tires will wear more in the center of the tire, whereas under-inflated tires have a tendency to wear more on the outside of the tire. Always check your tire pressure before long trips and make sure the spare tire is in good condition and properly inflated in case of an emergency.

Why The Cadillac Escalade Has Such A Huge Following

With the birth of the first Escalade in 1999, General Motors provided a luxury Sport Utility Vehicle through their popular Cadillac model. The interest in SUVs has increased since the late 90s with consumers searching for intriguing full size, higher end selections. The 2003 Cadillac Escalade came a long way from the basic model, successfully competing against rivals in the German and Japanese SUV market.

Automotive Dynamic Guide - How To Be Ready To Drive In A Foreign Land

If you are going to be behind the wheel of a new rented car, and in a strange foreign land where you have never driven before, what should you do in preparing to drive?

Just not so long ago, I was in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, located just north of Singapore. As those of you who have traveled widely to Asia would know, the traffic on the roads in most of the asian countries is heavy throughout the day, and many times driving habits take precedence over traffic rules and regulations, especially when the searing tropical heat bears down on cool heads, and raise tempers!

The History of Automobiles

The long and winding road must have been an uphill climb in the days before automobiles. Leonardo da Vinci played with the concept of transport vehicles in the 15th century, but horse drawn carriages and old, reliable walking remained the most efficient means of transportation. Thankfully, in the late 1700’s, inventors concluded, there has to be a better way. For well over two hundred years and counting, the art of transportation has been evolving. With a multitude of patents, inventors, mechanics, and researchers to thank, the modern day, fuel-injected, safety efficient automobile is light years away from the heavy, perilous steam engine powered vehicle of the early days.

There isn’t one clear cut inventor to single handedly credit with the invention of the automobile, although there is a wealth of opinions on why certain inventors should receive that credit. Contributions from Scotland”s Robert Anderson, France’s Nicholas Cugnot, Germany’s Karl Freidrich Benz, and Charles Duryea from the United States helped mold the first automobiles to provide genuine transportation.

Drag Racing - Take It Off The Street And To The Strip!

Drag racing, a contest between two cars starting from dead stop to determine which car can accelerate quicker to a given point. Drag racing started in the 1930’s where competitors raced along desert stretches of road to see who’s hot rod was faster. Over the coming years the sport became more organized and the National Hot Rod Association was formed in 1951. 54 years later, the NHRA is now the largest sanctioning body in motorsports with over 80,000 members.

Most people probably got their start with drag racing on the streets, sitting at a light when your neighbor or friend pulls up, both of you itching for the light to finally turn green so you both can hammer the throttle and see who could get to the next light first. There’s no doubt that it’s exciting, anticipating the green light, just waiting for the right moment to send the tires screeching for traction to get the edge on the car just a few feet to your side.

Choosing Your Ideal Car

Buying an automobile is one of the biggest purchases you might make in your entire lifetime. There are a lot factors to consider in making it a positive experience.

Decide first of all if your budget only allows for a used car. If this is the case then doing your homework is even more vital. Most times you don’t have the luxury of having the history of a used car. Having a licensed mechanic to check out a vehicle you are interested in can save you a lot of money in the long run. You can have a feel for a vehicle when you see and test-drive it but if the current owner won’t let you take it for a spin then I don’t recommend you buy it. Again, use a mechanics help. Also take into consideration that a lot of used cars won’t have a warranty. If it does not, you can still shop for one. It may be a hassle to go through the fine print but do it anyway.
