With gas prices averaging over three dollars a gallon, everyone in America is looking for ways to get more gas mileage out of their car. People are making sure they have enough air in their tires, changing their fuel filter, and watching their speed to try to conserve gas. However, there are many gas friendly car models on the market today, which could really put some money in your pocket.

The days are gone where the only gas friendly car models look like toy cars, or have no horsepower. Now you can get a sleek, sophisticated car, with quite a bit of horsepower, and great gas mileage. Many cars are available now like the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Honda Insight, Lexus GS450H, Toyota Camry, and the Toyota Prius. These cars get anywhere from 25 miles per gallon in the city (Lexus GS450H) on the low end to 61 miles per gallon in the city (Honda Insight). The Insight also gets 68 miles per gallon on the highway, while the GS450H, gets 28 miles per gallon on the highway. Some of these cars have a fully integrated hybrid (gas & electric) engine, while others have a six cylinder engine that turns off three cylinders on the highway to conserve gas.

Since 1974 the burning question of how much oil the world has left in its reserves has never fully vanished from my thoughts. At that time I was a sophomore in high school, Richard Nixon was President, our country’s involvement in Vietnam had come to a close, and eight-track tapes defined state-of-the-art audio technology. This was also the year that those of us in the U.S. experienced an oil shortage. Because of an embargo that I didn’t fully comprehend, gas prices suddenly skyrocketed, resulting in long lines at service stations reminiscent of the days of rationing during World War II. A few years before this, I was in grade school and recalled reading in a science textbook that was probably ten years out of date even then that in the United States alone, there was enough oil to last for about five billion years. My family used to take frequent trips to Oklahoma and Texas in those days, and indeed there were oil wells down there as far as the eye could see. I was a ten-year-old kid and had no reason to dispute my science book, even if it was written before Sputnik was launched.

But by 1974, during the “fuel crisis,” as it was dubbed, suddenly there were geologists and others with expertise who claimed that the world’s oil supply was limited and would be depleted in a matter of decades, not in five billion years. As a teenager I scoffed at these dire predictions, still relying on my science textbook from fifth grade, and in fact, around 1977 or so, when the price of a gallon of gas reached $1.00, there was no more talk of shortages. Johnny Carson even made a joke about it. I dismissed the whole thing as a greedy ploy by the oil companies to increase profits. So did a lot of others.

People get so funny (and I mean funny weird, not funny ‘ha ha’) when you call them by the wrong name. What’s even more strange is that I’m not referring to their given name, no I am referring to their job title or their working name… Take for instance ‘GREASE MONKEY’

I love that name. It conjures up the oddest pictures. Granted it does not necessarily paint the worlds most professional image (after all, some people think monkeys are smelly skittish creatures) but it does paint a mental image and one hell of a good one.

Road rage is often referred as the aggressive emotion between drivers caused by difficult driving conditions disguised in the name of traffic. Imagine a hypothetical scenario where you drive next to some guy who doesn’t give you space to make a turn and he is far beyond the posted speed limit. Does this irate you to certain extent that you revolt back?? If so, you are raging on road.

Signs & Symptoms of road rage • Tailgating. • Obscene gesturing. • Blasting the horn. • Racing to beat a yellow light that’s about to change into red. • Traveling in the passing or left lane at a slower speed, making it impossible for others to pass. • Cutting people off. • Slowing down after passing someone. • Changing lanes without signaling • Frequently changing lanes by weaving back and forth • Not making a right turn in the right-hand turn lane. • Not reacting quickly after the red light turns green • Flashing lights in order to signal persons to move to another lane. • Driving with the high beams on behind another vehicle or toward oncoming traffic.
