There are ways that you can get to work that will help you save on gas consumption for your car.

1. When driving to work avoid the peak times for rush hours.

This way you’ll use up less fuel and you’ll spend less of

you precious time sitting around in heavy traffic.

2. Try telecommuting from work if you’re in a position to do

so.

3. If you are the owner of more than one vehicle you should try

to drive the car that has the best gas mileage more often

than the one with higher gas mileage. Save the vehicle with

the lower gas mileage for those trips when you don’t want

your new vehicle damaged or don’t want to put the miles on

the odometer.

4. Find out about ride-sharing programs and carpools that are

available in your local area. By commuting to work with

others you’ll be cutting your monthly fuel costs by as much

as half. You’ll also be saving on the wear and tear of your

car. Many large cities have what is known as the HOV lane

(high occupancy vehicle) to encourage drivers to commute to

work.

5. Use the public transit service if it’s convenient for you

and available where you live. You may be able to drive your

vehicle to the bus depot and commute from there. Even though

you’re still driving your car part way to work you’ll still

notice a substantial savings when it comes to the cost of

your commute to and from work.

How often have we wondered if a deal for a car was mutually beneficial to both the buyer and the seller? Sellers are human, after all, and haggling too much should not leave him bitter about his indispensable customers. Since in this country, a car is bought many times in an average user’s lifetime, it is better to equip ourselves with some checklists, which leave both the buyer and the seller happy.

Some useful tips on buying a car are:

Make sure you buy during a time when very few are likely to buy that product. Christmas is a good time for buying cars. At this festive time, most people would be preoccupied with other purchases, so a car is least likely to figure in their list of purchases. Not only do you get the best deal, the seller is more than willing to sell you a product no one else would think of buying. In fact, this is the time when most would be looking to dispose of their cars at whatever price they can get, for obvious reasons.

Cars depreciate very quickly with time; even if it has not been driven, it is still considered old. So, make sure you go in for these cars at the time the new models come on the market. This is typically between July and October, when the dealer is in a state and needs to get rid of the older models.

With the surfeit of information about cars on the Net, surf closely for the best price. Once you have downloaded a price and presented it to a dealer who has offered a higher price, he is left with no option but to come to your price level!

Don’t get taken for a ride the next time your finance geek tells you that you were not eligible for a loan! Giving loans is his bread, and these are tricks to induce you into paying a higher rate. Tell him flatly that you would look out for another lender, and watch him fall at your feet!

Once a deal is closed, it is closed forever. Don’t again get fooled by those who claim that they need you to sign the papers once again after they have given you what you thought was a good interest rate. This is an attempt to fix a higher rate than the original, so look out.

Don’t try to exchange a car whose loan has not yet been cleared. Dealers usually take their own time to clear the remainder of the loan quickly; this could only invite penalties from your bank.

Once you have been convinced about your model, pay an initial amount and ensure you get the car at the stated price, so that in the interim of the time before the delivery, prices cannot be jacked up.

Distress selling is the last resort for your old car. Once you have shown that you badly need to dispose off your old car, you are handing the deal on a platter to the buyer. Start looking for a new car even while you are aware that there is still some life in it.

2) Don’t ride brakes when not needed. (Re-accelerating is where we burn over 85% of our gas.)

3) Get a good rolling start before you accelerate, in order to build momentum.

4) Don’t over accelerate but make sure to accelerate enough the first time. (Re-accelerating is where we burn over 85% of our gas.)

5) Don’t over decelerate. (Re-accelerating is where we burn over 85% of our gas… The more and the better you ‘read traffic’, the less you’ll unnecessarily decelerate and the more gas you’ll save.)

6) Change lanes properly to prevent slowing. (Re-accelerating is where we burn over 85% of our gas… When you ‘look ahead and read traffic properly’, you can prepare for lane changes thus preventing slowing for yourself and for many others. You save gas for yourself as well as for many others.)

7) Use gravity (to help gain momentum) when going down hill. (Gravity is a natural source of energy. You can use it to build momentum and to save a considerable amount of gas.)

To go along with the Toyota name, this model offers everything that you could possibly want in a SUV plus more. Of course the Toyota 4Runner is great in the reliability department, but it goes well beyond that.

The first thing to notice about the Toyota 4Runner is the rugged good looks that it offers. To take this a step further, the Toyota 4Runner also offers great interior space for people that have a family or have to haul a lot of luggage around all the time. Before the fuel cost skyrocketed we wouldn’t think twice about hopping in our car for a 50 or 60-mile trip, perhaps to a zoo or other recreational area for a leisurely Sunday outing with our families.

But by the statements of those who responded to our poll, it appears that these leisurely drives are being limited or in some cases, families are simply staying home more.

In order to combat his high fuel expense, M. Cooper from Saint Louis Mo, a consultant that drives 20,000 mile plus per year recently traded in his Ford Taurus for a new Honda Civic that gets 41mpg.

Another consumer stated the fuel prices have drastically changed their life style, they’ve quit going out to dinner, going to the movies and even cancelled their vacation plans. What once cost him 42.00 to fill up his truck, now cost $110.00. We have a lot less money than we did before this all started. We’ve drastically reduced the amount of driving, only when necessary and have attempted to combine trips, we do not do any extra driving unless it is for school or work, so we stay home much more and do not have extra money NOW!

Matt Downer from Downers Grove, Illinois seems to have at lease somewhat of a positive spin on the situation. I’ve become a lot more in shape because I walk everywhere or bike, I think it’s a blessing in disguise, America is the most obese country in the world and maybe this will slim it down a bit, also a lot fewer fuel emissions if people don’t drive the earth won’t die.

What ever your thoughts and opinions are for the recent climb in prices, I think it’s clear that until the prices come down, the majority of the everyday working class people will be forced to continue to deprive themselves of even the most basic luxuries.

While we can’t control the price per gallon, we can at least follow a few basic guidelines and reduce our cost, albeit a minimum amount, but at $3.00 per gallon, even a minimum amount will help our pocketbooks.

Listed below are UsedCarWise.Com’s Top 10 tips for increasing your fuel mileage.

1. Set the tire pressure to the recommend psi as per the tire placard or label of your vehicle. (Always adjust tire pressure with cold tires)

2. Avoid excessive idling times, such as warming your car up in the mornings (It serves no purpose anyway)

3. Instead of going thru the drive thru at fast food chains, go inside to order. This will of course avoid excess idling while in line.

4. Remove any excessive weight from the trunk or bed of your truck (This doesn’t include over weight spouses either)

5. Remove luggage racks for aerodynamic reasons.

6. Make sure the steering and suspension system end is aligned properly, a mis-aligned steering system will cause excessive drag and reduce fuel mileage.

7. Use Cruise Control while driving at highway speeds.

8. Reduce your speed by 5mph, this may be the biggest saver of all, and if you think about it, 5mph will not get you to your destination much quicker. (Just be prepared for 1 finger hello’s and horn honkers)

9. Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained, especially the air filter. If your check engine light is on, have it corrected as soon as possible, it could be a defective sensor or other mechanical fault that will severely impact fuel mileage. Always use the proper grade of engine oil as well, the wrong grade can impact fuel mileage by 1% or more.

10. Avoid jackrabbit starts and aggressive driving habits.

While the above tips may not be new, they certainly bear not just repeating, but adhering to as well. And with the cost of fuel at record highs, we need all the help we can muster.

As we discuss alternative energies for automobiles one only has to use their imagination to consider a wind-powered car. Hey would that not be the coolest car you could own? Well recently a gentleman on an online think tank actually considered this and even sent in his idea as a suggestion to General Motors.

Challenging the experts Think Tank Thinker, Joseph states; “A challenge for engineers if they can over come many road blocks both political and technical.”

Now there is a challenge indeed. Now you are talking; “A Wind Powered Car!” Once I myself had actually considered this and my thoughts were to design tube like roads. Consider a tube with big funnels around it. The funnels would open in the direction of the inflowing wind, which would be diverted into the tube. Then the “Venturi Affect” would make the wind flow fast and the cars would be blown down the tube.

Behind each car would be a wind generator propeller and the difference between the speed of the car and the wind would move the propeller and charge the batteries. So upon exit of the tunnel they could go to where they needed to go. When you parked you could move the propeller on your car and swivel it into the wind to constantly charge the batteries. The batteries would be the latest and greatest ion-lithium high-tech MIT batteries.

There would also be little induction system under the car which picked up the air sandwiched between the car and the road where it was moving faster and bring it up into a series of flat planes or propellers to trickle charge battery as you drove. Abstract indeed, but simply thinking out loud on Joseph’s killer idea on the online think tank. We all have great ideas, what is yours? Consider this in 2006.

Ford vehicles are known for their toughness and reliability; however just like other vehicles you see on the road, they are subject to regular car maintenance and occasional repair. Its original Ford parts may wear down over time and so you would need to replace them. However, you too can replace stock parts and equipments in your Ford vehicle to upgrade its performance especially when your car or truck is already old.

One of your most trusted online auto parts dealers is Ford Parts Online. This store is dedicated to giving you top quality replacement performance Ford parts. These parts greatly affect how your vehicle performs and usually, they carry out the most critical tasks. Keeping them in excellent form and working condition is a must in order to bring out your vehicle’s maximum abilities all the time.

Some of these performance parts are also designed to give your Ford auto an outstanding exterior look. They can set your vehicle apart from ordinary cars you see on the streets and highways. Take for example the Ford wheels and tires. The quality of these parts, the size or dimension and how they are positioned greatly affect ride quality and handling; however, they too can give your car a sporty, luxurious or rugged look, depending on what kind of wheels you get for your vehicle.

Ford Parts Online, as your number one Ford Parts Discount store offers these performance parts in very affordable deals, giving you the best satisfaction. Let’s take a look at the store’s available performance parts for your Ford’s engine and electrical systems as well as some insights on the said systems’ function and components.

Ford Engine Parts

Available at Ford Parts Online are heavy duty Ford Explorer timing belt cover, Ford F150 Pickup harmonic balancer, Ford Mustang timing belt cover with oil pump. These parts along with other performance Ford Explorer parts, Ford F150 pickup parts and Ford Mustang parts are designed to endure extremely hot temperatures under the hood so you can expect them to last longer and perform better.

The timing belt cover gives protection to the timing belt. Its task is very important since the timing belts are among the engine parts that easily wear out. The timing belts or timing chains, though simple in design (it looks like a bicycle chain), performs very essential task too, which is to synchronize the movement of the camshaft with the crankshaft. Without proper timing, there could be too little or too much air-fuel mixture entering the engine for combustion.

On the other hand, the crankshaft is the one that converts the straight line motion of the pistons into rotary motion. The turning motion is then transmitted to the transmission and ultimately to the Ford wheels.

Ford Electrical Parts

The major components of your Ford’s electrical system are the Ford battery and the Ford alternator. Many think that the battery is the main source of power but it is not. It only stores the power produced by the alternator.

When the engine is running, it is the Ford alternator that supplies electricity to all the parts of the vehicle that needs it such as the Ford lights, the horn and other electrical equipments. On the other hand, when the engine is not running, the battery takes charge of supplying electricity to all auto parts that need it, such as the Ford starter, which is used to spin the engine over so that the pistons can draw in fuel and air mixture into the cylinder.

There are three sections in an alternator that generate three separate voltages in one revolution or cycle (each phase is shifted by 120 degrees from the next phase). Each phase has its own windings, each of which also has its own pair of diodes. Each of the windings and diodes can fail at a time. Although the alternator may still be able to charge the battery when one of the winding/diodes fails, power stored by the battery would not be enough to supply for the car’s electrical needs. This means you have to limit the use of the AC system and some electrical parts.

However, you don’t have to wait till the alternator finally surrenders. Replace your old or worn out Ford alternator with Ford Parts Online’s top quality replacement alternator. Offered in the store are premium quality alternators for almost all Ford models.

For other performance parts, go visit this number one Ford Parts Discount store’s website. Just click through the link and see for yourself their best quality Ford parts and their exciting deals.

Biodiesel is a popular subject these days due to many factors including world tensions, oil prices, and the environmental impact of petroleum based fuels. There is a lot of information floating around regarding Biodiesel, some true and some not. Below sits our fact sheet of things to know about Biodiesel.

•	The process of turning vegetable oil into Biodiesel is called transesterification.

•	Biodiesel is a processed fuel unlike unprocessed alternative-fuels like straight vegetable oil or waste vegetable oil which some diesel engines have been modified to use.

•	Biodiesel is cleaner burning than conventional diesel fuel.

•	Biodiesel produces fewer emissions during the manufacturing phase than standard petroleum based fuel.

•	During the transesterification process, the natural glycerines found in vegetable are separated out and become the only byproduct of the manufacturing of Biodiesel.

•	While Biodiesel can and is being produced by current crops of corn and other vegetables, there is research being done on producing vegetables with less focus on taste and more on the quantities of oil they produce.

•	Biodiesel is usually yellow in color, although the shade of yellow can vary from production facility to production facility.

•	Biodiesel is registered and approved as a fuel and fuel additive by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

•	Biodiesel can be used pure or blended with standard diesel fuel.

•	Biodiesel can be produced from mustard, rapeseed, soybeans, palm oil, hemp, algae, and more.

•	Used vegetable oil, like that found from restaurants and delicatessens, can also be manufactured into Biodiesel.

•	Despite the fact that it is often falsely stated, Biodiesel and raw vegetable oil are not the same thing.

•	Biodiesel can be produced at home or bought at fuel stations that deal in alternative fuel either alongside standard fuel or by itself.

•	The power derived from Biodiesel is comparable to standard diesel fuel.

•	Most manufacturers’ warranties cover the use of Biodiesel in their vehicles.

•	The emissions from Biodiesel are safer for bystanders to breathe than that of conventional gasoline or diesel.

•	Except under rare circumstances, no engine modifications are needed to run a vehicle on Biodiesel.

•	When storing Biodiesel use the same standards and procedures you would use storing gasoline or petroleum based diesel.

•	Up to 20% of tailpipe emissions can be reduced by using Biodiesel.

•	Biodiesel is rated as less toxic than table salt.

•	Biodiesel is biodegradable at about the same rate as that of sugar.

•	Biodiesel has a flash point of over 125°C (257°F) and as a result it is safer to store than conventional diesel fuel.

•	Because it is manufactured from farm raised crops, the purchase of Biodiesel benefits the farmers that raise those crops.

•	Biodiesel can be blended with standard diesel fuel by the manufacturer or the home user can blend it as well.

•	When Rudolph Diesel first showed his, at that time, new diesel engine at the World’s Fair in 1898 in France it ran on Peanut Oil and it was quite common for diesel engines to run on vegetable oil until the 1920’s.

Biodiesel is a viable and marketable alternative fuel that is ready for use in engines right now. More and more production facilities are being built and the demand for Biodiesel by consumers has been growing. The widespread use of Biodiesel would benefit those interested in their country being less dependent on oil producing nations, environmental issues, and high oil prices.

For all of you out there that are grumbling about the ever rising price of gasoline, how many of you have truly considered ways that will save your precious fuel. Sure, you probably considered car pooling or maybe are even actively doing it. Others will swelter in the summertime, afraid that using the air conditioner will increase the amount of fuel that is consumed. The question is have you ever considered if your tires are costing you gas money?

When your tires are correctly inflated, it can save you money. If your tires are under inflated, they are pliant and cause too much friction with the road. This causes your engine to work extra, driving up your gas needs. If they are too soft they can lower your gas mileage by .4 percent for every pound in drop of pressure. According to the Department of Energy, correctly inflated wheels can increase your gas efficiency by 3 %. When your wheels are correctly inflated they will offer you a smoother ride, better vehicle handling, and better gas mileage. If you don’t know what the proper pressure is for your car, you can find that information on the inside of the glove compartment, or your car manual. The label will list a PSI, and you should use the highest number possible to increase your gas efficiency. Not only should your wheels have the right PSI, they should also be evenly inflated.

When cold weather rolls around, your wheels will need some TLC. When the temperature drops 10 degrees your tire pressure drops 1 lb, which adds to the rolling resistance. If the pressure drops quickly, it is recommended that you check your tire pressure with a store bought PSI gauge.

Correct tire alignment will also help in gas economy. Your wheels should be aligned at least once every 12 months. If your wheels aren’t lined up straight they will drag and not roll correctly, which adds to the resistance and increases your gas consumption. Balancing your wheels is a good idea too. When your car’s tires are out of balance you will feel strong vibrations as you steer. These vibrations will lead to a shortened suspension life and uneven wear on your wheels.

When you rotate your wheels you are saving even more money at the pump. When your wheels are rotated you are distributing the wear more evenly throughout all 4 wheels. You can find the recommended rotation for your vehicle in its manual. The type of tire you choose for your car also affects your car’s gas economy. Before you replace your wheels you should take into consideration the kind of car you have and which wheels will do the best job. Consulting the owner’s manual is a helpful idea that can take the guess work out of tire shopping. The best attributes of a replacement tire are low rolling resistance and durability.

When your wheels are properly maintained you will see a difference at the pump, putting more money in your pockets and less gas in your tank!

Acura, as a brand, has been holding up its share in its commitment of crafting, introducing, and bringing to the market vehicles that are engineered so as to provide excellent performance. And once again, Acura has added another vehicle to this list and at the same reinforcing the brand’s commitment. Welcome the all-new 2006 Acura CL.

The 2006 Acura CL has been redesigned and reengineered in almost every little detail possible. This new vehicle promises to deliver higher levels of performance, technological innovations, engineering achievements, passenger safety, and overall style. It has also been destined to compete with the existing BMW 328Ci, the Volvo C70, and the Mercedes Benz CLK320. This vehicle has been again designed so as to provide and exude the smooth and flowing lines of the classic coupes of the European Gran Turismo. However, this does not overbear the styling that is only from an Acura. Making the 2006 Acura CL a remarkable vehicle is that it has been able to combine the past, tradition, and heritage with modernity and technology. This vehicle surely possesses encompassing efficiency with its powerful engines, as well as revolutionary safety features and high technology vehicle management systems that are controls by computers.

There are two engine options for the 2006 Acura CL. It is either the Acura 3.2 liter VTEC V6 engine with 24 valves, or the 3.2 power plant that has the capacity to create 225 horsepower. As per interior volume, this all-new vehicle sports 96.5 cubic feet of this, which is a 4.6 cubic feet increase from the previous vehicle. It also sports some 192.0 inches of length and 70.6 inches in its width. Safety features have been packed in this vehicle. The list includes standard front airbags, advanced side airbags with front passenger height and position sensors, and the standard anti-lock brakes as well as the Traction Control System.

Offered as an option for the 2006 Acura CL is the Acura Navigation System. This system provides a satellite-linked nationwide coverage done through the use of a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) database located on board. The vehicle also sports modifications like CompTech cold air intake, certified exhaust headers, CompTech high-flow exhaust system, Brembo brakes, sport suspension with Titanium front upper strut bar, 19-inch Maya DTM wheels, front and rear bumpers with side moldings, a deck lid tail spoiler, and custom aluminum exhaust tips.

The 2006 Acura CL is one coupe that is really worth looking into. Although this vehicle has its share of downs like a confusing navigation system controls, and cramped head room as well as entry and exit for the rear seats, the 2006 Acura CL still shines amidst these with its quick acceleration, smooth steering as well as handling, and a perfect build quality.

Hard Tonneau covers are made of lightweight materials. Some are so light that even a child can lift them. This lightweight construction makes them easy to install and operate. Many hard tops contain hinges and can be opened upward and held in place by metal rods, providing the user with access to the entire truck bed. Some models are equipped with doors on their surface, while others can be folded up in seconds. The folding models allow users to access the entire truck bed, stowing the Tonneau cover in a small space for future use.

Hard Tonneau covers are a stylish way for truck owners to protect their cargo and add character to their vehicle. They can be painted any color, providing as much decoration as security. Many people with custom pickup trucks or low-riders choose customized Hard Tonneau covers to add their signature style to their trucks.

The Honda Ridgeline has been in production just this year and it is a midsize pickup truck. Its competition include the Dodge Dakota, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Explorer Sport Trac, and Subaru Baja. As per the Honda Odyssey, this minivan has been produced going back to 1995. It competes in the market with the Toyota Sienna, Ford Freestar, Nissan Quest, Dodge Caravan, Kia Sedona and Mazda5.

The AutoPacific VSA tries to establish numerical satisfaction ratings for every car and light truck in the United States. How do they do such a task? They take owner satisfaction and calculate it across 45 specific areas that are related to a vehicle’s operation, comfort, safety, and overall purchase or lease experience.

Although most people in North America believe diesel engines are slow, rough and decidedly unsporty, Audi has proved them wrong by winning The Twelve Hours of Sebring this past weekend in their Audi R10 TDI. In case you’re wondering, this 650hp racecar is a diesel. It went up against the best from Porsche, Aston Martin, Lola and others to win by 4 laps at the famed endurance race in Florida. Although this is a critical victory, Audi has its sights set on winning The 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and making automotive history.

Audi has spent much time and energy building a diesel racecar. The main advantage is that because diesels are inherently more fuel efficient, they’ll make fewer pit stops than the competition. This strategy clearly worked out.

Just like most automotive technologies, the lessons learned on the racetrack might some day be applied to production cars. As more and more consumers look for more fuel-efficient cars, diesel technology is hitting its stride. As of June 2006 North America will finally have Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel meaning European manufacturers can bring over more diesel engine variants if they want too. They were unable before due to the poor diesel fuel quality here in North America. The new regulations mean the sulfur content in diesel fuel will be reduced to 15ppm from 500ppm.

Although hybrids emit less pollution, new diesel particulate traps are helping to make diesel emissions cleaner than ever. Unlike hybrids, diesels have a long- standing reputation as being reliable and built to last. A battery pack for hybrids can cost upwards of $8000 and there’s not yet a sufficient amount of data to determine how often they need to be replaced.

Victories like the one this past weekend by Audi are not just important in the race world, but also in the public relations world. Should the 650hp Audi R10 TDI win at Le Mans in June, this will help to fuel North America’s appetite for high performance diesel technology.
