Ethanol is being touted as the savior to help us purge our Nation’s Addiction to Middle Eastern Foreign Oil, but before we get too warm and fuzzy over this there are indeed things you should know. One is that E85 Ethanol is 10% less efficient that gasoline at most temperatures, unless it is run thru a turbo system on an engine where the air is heated up for a better burn.
The hotter the climate the better it burns. For instance if you burn Ethanol in hotter desert regions you get more bang for your buck and it actually is in many cases a more powerful and efficient fuel than straight gasoline. However in colder climates where typically it is most used; that is to say near its resources Northern Midwest it is actually the most inefficient. Interesting isn’t it?

Well indeed, but there is another factor too, where it is colder and higher altitude the fuel actually pollutes more, so in the mile high city of Denver it is 10% less powerful and efficient and puts out more pollution? So much for all the liberals they are demanding the fuel to replace gasoline.
You see the best place to use ethanol would be Florida, Lower NM, desert areas of NV, AZ and CA and probably Los Angeles, especially in the summer time. We should also be thinking of GA, LA, AL and Mississippi and yes Texas too? But fat chance because they already have so much oil to make into gasoline. Consider all this in 2006.
